The Russian Federation does not see the possibility of introducing a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia said during a briefing, commenting on the prospects for a ceasefire.
According to Nebenzi, he considers Ukraine's actions to be the main "obstacle" to the agreements. In particular, he accused Kyiv of violating the supposedly achieved moratorium on strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.
"We had an attempt at a limited ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure facilities, which was not respected by the Ukrainian side. Under the current circumstances, talking about a ceasefire is simply unrealistic at this stage," Nebenzia said.
The representative of the aggressor country also added that Russia allegedly "has not been attacking energy facilities since day one" - despite numerous evidence and massive shelling of Ukrainian critical infrastructure, which has repeatedly caused blackouts in the country.
As a reminder, on March 11, following negotiations between the US and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, information emerged about an initiative to introduce a 30-day ceasefire. Ukraine agreed to the proposal, with the final decision to be made by Russia.
Later, the parties allegedly reached a separate agreement to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. However, on the same day, the Russian Federation struck the Donetsk region, which led to large-scale power outages. This was not an isolated incident: over the past month, Russia has repeatedly shelled Ukrainian thermal power plants, hydroelectric power plants, and substations.
