An exciting sports event took place in Cherkasy, which became a true symbol of courage and devotion. Rescuer from Poltava, Andrii Grechany, set a Ukrainian record by running 21 km in full rescue equipment. This heroic race was dedicated to the memory of his brother, who died in the line of duty.
On September 15, 2024, a large-scale charity race was held in Cherkasy within the RUN 4 VICTORY League, organized by the "Character" sports community and the "MHP-Hromadi" charitable foundation. The event brought together nearly 1,000 participants who took part in various distances in support of the 118th Territorial Defense Brigade. In addition to numerous participants, the event became special thanks to the setting of a new Ukrainian record.
Rescuer from Poltava Andriy Grechany ran 21 km in full rescue equipment weighing more than 20 kg, which was officially recorded as a Ukrainian record in the nomination "The largest weight of the equipment of a firefighter-rescuer who covered the half-marathon distance." The equipment included a helmet, a protective suit, shoes, gloves, a belt, an apparatus for compressed air and an ax - all this Andriy uses in his daily work.
Andriy dedicated the race to his colleague from the Dnipropetrovsk State Service for Emergency Situations, Mykola Nechiporenko, who died on June 22, 2024 after severe injuries received during the liquidation of the consequences of shelling in the Nikopol community. "Mykola and I were friends, we graduated from the same university. His death is a great loss for our service, and I couldn't help dedicating this race to him," said Andriy after the finish.
