The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced a successful special operation to detain an agent network of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), which included former and current employees of Ukrainian special services. As a result of this operation, 5 people were detained.
The detainees include former officials of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, as well as an employee of the regional SBU department. They were accused of passing intelligence on the Defense Forces and strategically important facilities, such as energy facilities, to the Russian side.
According to the investigation, one of the detainees, a former employee of foreign intelligence, was recruited by the FSB even before the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. He provided information about the locations of the bases of the Ukrainian military and the channels for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. In addition, he transmitted classified information about the protection systems of nuclear power plants.
Other members of the group also carried out espionage activities for Russia, carrying out tasks that consisted of gathering information about military facilities and important infrastructure facilities.
It is worth noting that the investigators revealed that the FSB recruited members of the group using threats to kill their families, and also paid a monetary reward for each completed task.
Currently, all the detainees are suspected of treason and are in custody. They may be fined or imprisoned for a long period of time in accordance with the Criminal Code of Ukraine .
It should be noted that this is not the first time that the SBU has announced the detention of Russian agents on the territory of Ukraine.
