According to the new calendar, this day honors the martyr Sozontus. He openly professed Christianity during the reign of Emperor Decius and refused to offer sacrifices to pagan gods. Because of this, he was tortured and executed. Believers consider Saint Sozontus the patron saint of those who suffer for their faith.
