US President Joe Biden will end his term in a few weeks, and many in Ukraine are wondering what final "gifts" he can leave for our country. Political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko warns that significant changes in the US policy towards Ukraine should not be expected before the end of Biden's presidency. The main motivation of the US administration has always been the national interest, not philanthropic efforts, and this should be taken into account when evaluating Washington's subsequent actions.
We are surprised at how contradictory President Biden is behaving regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war. Sometimes he feverishly rushes to help Ukraine, then he falls silent for half a year, explaining it as a danger for the USA and the whole world that comes from Putin's Russia. He constantly changes the terms of the cardinal aid and the motives of his actions regarding Ukraine, sometimes pointing to terrible corruption, then to the extremely low competence of the political leadership of Ukraine. Which does not prevent US politicians from regularly meeting with those whom they so fiercely criticize and whom they clearly do not trust with their plans and assistance.
It seems wise to President Biden that Ukraine should not lose and Russia should not win. This shows the US strategy of small portions of military aid to Ukraine while constantly erasing the "red lines" of Putin's Russia. Another thing is that this senile political wisdom is not fruitful, has no prospects, because Washington does not know what to do with Ukraine or Russia after the armistice or the end of the war.
US President Biden does not hide that his main concern is the presidential elections in the US, not the suffering of Ukraine. So we must admit that if US President Biden believes in the victory of Harris, the candidate from the Democratic Party in the 2024 elections, then he will not make a sharp increase in aid to Ukraine until the end of his term, leaving Harris, on the one hand, with the difficult "problem of Ukraine", with on the other hand, freedom of maneuver and responsibility to the US.
