On June 26, 2025, Ukrainians celebrate several important events at once: the church holiday in honor of the Tikhvinsky Icon of the Mother of God, the State Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, as well as a number of international initiatives, which are intended to remind of human rights, health and solidarity.
Church holiday
According to the Novoyan Calendar, which now uses the PCU, on June 26, they honor the Tikhin icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered images in Orthodoxy. She is praying about the health of children, healing patients, peace in the family and spiritual fortification. Also this day is remembered by St. John Gotf and Reverend David of Thessaloniki.
Once upon a time, it was a honor of the Akillin martyr, but the calendar reform has shifted the celebration.
Holiday in Ukraine
June 26 in Ukraine is the day of the Crimean Tatar flag. It was officially celebrated after the occupation of Crimea in 2014. In many cities of Ukraine, in particular in Kiev, there are promotions, flash mobs and races in support of the Crimean Tatar people.
It is a day of solidarity, which is reminiscent of the indomitability of Crimean Tatars in the struggle for their land, law and culture.
Also on June 26, prominent Ukrainians were born: ethnographer Vasyl Tarnovsky, fiction writer Vasyl Berezhny, artist and theatrical decorator Ninel Garkusha, singer and poet Vasyl Vasyltsi.
