In an evening address on May 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Defense Forces shot down a Su-25, becoming the 349th downed aircraft during the full-scale invasion. So far, the PS has not commented on this incident. The president noted that the plane was shot down by the 110th separate mechanized brigade.
Su-25 is used by both sides of the conflict - both Russia and Ukraine. This aircraft was developed back in the days of the Soviet Union at the Sukhoi Research and Design Bureau. The first flight took place in 1975, and since 1981 it has been adopted. Since then, it has been actively used in military operations.
The Su-25, known as the Frogfoot under NATO classification, is widely used to support combat operations during the day and at night, as long as the target is visible. It can be used to attack ground and surface targets, as well as low-altitude, slow-moving air targets such as helicopters and transport aircraft.
The aircraft is equipped with various weapons and defense systems that allow it to survive in combat conditions. It can be used for reconnaissance, combat support, and also to destroy enemy equipment.
The Su-25 remains one of the most successful attack aircraft in the world, used by more than 30 countries. He participated in many military conflicts, such as in Afghanistan, Iraq, Abkhazia, Chechnya, Syria and others. Ukraine used the Su-25 in combat for the first time in 2015 during the defense of Donetsk airport.
