Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal has informed that there is no reason to impose personal sanctions on Andriy Portnov, a former deputy head of the Presidential Administration Viktor Yanukovych. The relevant statement was made in the context of a petition, which was submitted to the NSDC proposals for the application of sanctions to Portnov.
In response to the petition received to the Ministry of Economy, it is noted that the submitted materials do not contain sufficient grounds for applying sanctions in accordance with Ukrainian legislation. In particular, the Ministry of Economy has concluded that sanctions imposed by the United States of America on Portnova cannot serve as a certain basis for restrictive measures in Ukraine. The document also emphasizes that no evidence of Portnov's terrorist activity or other actions that would require sanctions is not provided.
The petition, signed by citizens, emphasized the involvement of Portnov in attempting to control the Ukrainian judicial system during his stay as a deputy head of AP during Yanukovych. It was noted that Portnov tried to put loyal officials on key positions in the judicial system and influenced the legislative processes. In particular, it was about his activity in 2019, when he allegedly conspired with high -ranking officials to influence the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
Despite these statements, as a result of the audit, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the Bureau of Economic Security, NABU and the SBU did not provide evidence to confirm the need for sanctions or any other legal reaction.
