Scholz held the first telephone conversation with Putin in two years

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is their first contact in almost two years. According to Reuters , the conversation lasted about an hour and covered key issues of security and international politics.

The German government confirmed the telephone conversation between Scholz and Putin.

According to Bloomberg, they discussed ways to end the war in Ukraine.

Scholz told Putin that the war must end and called for negotiations with Ukraine.

We will remind you that the Russian Federation declares that it is ready for negotiations with Ukraine, but only on the basis of "realities on the ground". that is, taking into account Russian territorial seizures.

Ukraine, on the other hand, officially rejects any territorial compromises and demands the withdrawal of Russian troops to the borders of 1991.

Scholz also told Putin that Germany will continue to support Ukraine "as much as it takes," the German Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement.
