People's Artist of Ukraine Oksana Bilozir does not rule out the possibility of returning to the post of Minister of Culture. She spoke about this in an interview with TSN.ua backstage at a music show, commenting on the latest personnel changes in the department.
As a reminder, the government recently appointed Tetyana Berezhna as acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy for the period of the ministry's transformation. Bilozir, who held this position in 2005 during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, commented on the appointment with restraint. She noted that she does not plan to provide any advice to the new head.
“I won’t give her any advice. Everyone has their own path. I just wish her to do many good things while she has this unique moment,” the singer said.
However, more unexpected was her statement about her readiness to return to politics. Bilozir emphasized that she knows how to work effectively in the system, but admits that there is practically no chance of a return, since she is not part of the current team.
“I would be happy to return, because I know what to do in this position. But they definitely won’t contact me. I am not a member of their team. I am Ukrainian-centric, and in 45 years on stage I have not performed a single Russian-language song,” said Bilozir.
The singer also spoke openly for the first time about the reason for her short tenure in 2005. According to her, she was poisoned, which led to a serious condition and long-term disability.
“I was poisoned, I was close to death. And then I was on disability for three years. I hid it because I had to survive,” she shared.
Despite the difficult experience, Bilozir emphasizes that she would be ready to take on responsibility for the development of Ukrainian culture again.
