Skipping breakfast linked to obesity and hormonal disruptions

Skipping breakfast can have serious consequences for your health and longevity. A new scientific study has found a link between skipping the morning meal and an increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease and brain disorders. Scientists warn that this habit creates an additional burden on the body and can lead to the development of dangerous pathologies.

According to the results of a study published on the scientific platform ScienceDirect, the issue of skipping breakfast remains controversial, but the accumulated data gives reason for serious concern. The authors of the work emphasize that regularly skipping the morning meal negatively affects metabolism and hormonal balance.

Experts say that skipping breakfast puts your body in a state of stress. Hormonal fluctuations can make you feel hungrier throughout the day, which can often lead to overeating and weight gain. It can also disrupt your digestive system and trigger internal inflammatory reactions, which can eventually lead to chronic diseases.

The study also points to the negative impact of skipping breakfast on brain function. People are more likely to complain of decreased concentration, irritability, and fatigue, particularly during exercise. Scientists also point to a possible link between this habit and increased anxiety and depression, which is explained by the effect on the regulation of neurotransmitters.

In their conclusion, the researchers note that while skipping breakfast has become popular due to its perceived metabolic benefits, emerging evidence demonstrates its negative effects on physiological and cognitive systems. A systematic review links this habit to increased appetite, insulin resistance, increased cardiovascular risk, obesity, disruption of the gut microbiome, and systemic inflammation.

Doctors also warn against skipping breakfast. Skipping breakfast has never been considered beneficial and, according to cardiologist Lopez-Jimenez, can increase the risk of heart disease and other diseases, according to numerous studies. He points out that heart attacks are more common in the morning, and not eating can further complicate the situation.

The specialist explains that in the morning, the human body naturally increases its adrenaline levels. If a person skips breakfast, the body perceives this as a threat of hunger, which leads to an even greater release of adrenaline and creates a dangerous burden on the cardiovascular system.
