A significant reduction in the population of Ukraine is predicted over the next 26 years. According to the Ministry of Social Policy, in 2050 the number of the country's inhabitants will be 25.2 million people, which is 10 million less than today.
The project of the country's demographic development strategy until 2040 shows a decrease in average life expectancy, especially among men, from 66.4 years to 57.3 years, and among women, from 76.2 years to 70.9 years.
The reason for this forecast is various factors, including war, mass employment in harmful working conditions, road accidents, alcohol intoxication, insufficient information about healthy lifestyles, insufficient quality of medical care in rural areas and increasing poverty.
The document defines several key goals, including increasing the birth rate, reducing premature mortality, ensuring migratory growth of the population, and adapting society to demographic aging.
According to the Institute of Demography and Social Research named after M. V. Ptukh of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, after the end of the war, the population may decrease by 3-4 million people.
Migration is also an important factor influencing the demographic situation. Earlier, a draft law on increasing payments for the birth of a child was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
