Reduction of social payments for Ukrainians: Who will touch new rules in Germany

Germany is preparing to change the order of social support for Ukrainian refugees. According to DW, the new rules provide for a reduction in monthly payments for Ukrainians who will arrive in the country after April 1, 2025.

According to the initiative of the new government coalition, which includes CDU/CSS and SDPN parties, newcomers will no longer receive assistance in the amount of 563 euros as unemployed citizens of Germany. Instead, they will be charged 441 euros a month - an amount that corresponds to the base subsistence minimum for asylum requests from all over the world.

The new legislation has not yet been adopted, but it requires approval at all levels - from federal to municipal. According to experts, the change of change will take several months. Thus, even after April 1, some of the new refugees from Ukraine will be able to receive old increased help for some time.

Lawyers reassure: you do not have to return the "overpayed" amounts.

This decision has caused a lively discussion in German society. Some believe that Ukrainians should receive assistance with the Germans, while others urge to equalize the conditions for all foreigners.
