A bank employee in Odessa transferred a client's savings to her own card

In Odessa, a bank employee embezzled almost 400,000 hryvnias belonging to an elderly client, the press service of the National Police reported.

An 85-year-old woman contacted law enforcement, reporting the disappearance of funds from two of her deposit accounts. During the investigation, it was revealed that a 22-year-old chief economist of the retail business service, who worked at a bank branch in the city's Primorsky district, was involved in the disappearance of the money.

During the pensioner's personal appeal to the bank, the employee, taking advantage of her age and ignorance, changed the financial phone number in the bank's system to her own. After the woman left the branch, the economist gained access to the victim's banking application. Having gained full control over the client's accounts, the attacker closed both deposits and transferred 394,550 hryvnias to her own bank card. For the offense committed, the defendant faces up to six years in prison with a further ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain types of activity for a period of up to three years.

The court chose a preventive measure for her in the form of night house arrest. The accused has already returned part of the embezzled funds to the victim.
