The US State Department has updated its recommendations for US citizens planning to travel to Ukraine. In the new update, the risk level for nine western regions of Ukraine has been reduced from the fourth, highest, to the third. This was the first reduction in the level of risk since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to the information, the agency has singled out some Ukrainian territories as regions with a lower level of risk, due to the capabilities of air defense and remoteness from active combat zones.
From the fourth (do not travel) to the third level (consider your trip), the State Department lowered the risk for several regions of Ukraine: Volyn, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr.
At the same time, the department strongly recommends to all US citizens:
Closely monitor communications from the US government, local and international media for information on changes in security conditions and warnings about the need to shelter in place. The security situation in Ukraine remains unpredictable
Such changes were made by the department for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
