The US Embassy in Ukraine has received numerous complaints from its citizens who have dual citizenship regarding restrictions on leaving Ukraine. In particular, US citizens who are also citizens of Ukraine report difficulties leaving the country due to complications related to their dual citizenship.
"The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv has received numerous reports that individuals with dual citizenship of the U.S. and Ukraine are experiencing significant difficulties both when entering and exiting Ukraine," according to the updated recommendations (https://t .me/stranaua/176514) of the State Department regarding trips to Ukraine.
The agency reminds that Ukraine does not recognize dual citizenship, and holders of Ukrainian and American passports can be mobilized.
"Persons with dual citizenship will be considered citizens of Ukraine during their stay in Ukraine and will have to use a Ukrainian passport when entering and leaving the country. Men aged 18-60 with Ukrainian citizenship are also subject to restrictions on leaving and possible mobilization during the period of martial law," the message reads.
