According to The Wall Street Journal, the US is sending more than 500 interceptor missiles to Ukraine for the Patriot missile defense system and the NASAMS air defense system. The deliveries should take place in the coming weeks and will contribute to the strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities.
These missiles will become an important element in countering Russian missile attacks and improving the air defense system. According to the statements of American officials, these deliveries should satisfy Ukraine's air defense needs until the end of 2024.
Currently, more than 7 billion US dollars allocated by the Pentagon for military aid to Ukraine remain unused. At the same time, more than 2 billion US dollars have been allocated for long-term contracts for the supply of defense equipment.
These deliveries are part of the Biden administration's strategy to strengthen Ukraine's defense position before possible negotiation processes that may be initiated after January 2024. US government officials plan to complete the transfer of the remaining military aid by next April, seeking to give Ukraine a stronger negotiating position.
