May is traditionally considered the month of holidays that Ukrainians celebrate with heat, attention to traditions and important dates. This year, the last month of spring is also rich in professional, international and commemorative events that will make this period particularly saturated.
The International Labor Day (May 1), dedicated to the memory of labor protests in Chicago, which took place in 1886, opens May 1. A little later, May 3, Ukrainians will celebrate several dates at once: World Press Freedom Day, confectionery professional holiday and the birthday of Lviv.
Particularly important for Ukrainian society this year will be May 8 and 9: memory and reconciliation days, as well as Europe Day, which since 2023 Ukraine celebrates on May 9, emphasizing European choice and solidarity.
May 11 - special date for Ukrainian families: Mother's Day. This holiday is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday of May, when Ukrainians greet their moms with warm words and gifts.
Another favorite date is the day of embroidery, which falls on May 15. On this day, Ukrainians wear national clothing, demonstrating unity, love for traditions and culture.
In mid -May, Ukrainians also mention the tragic pages of history: May 18 - the Day of Struggle for the Rights of the Crimean Tatar People and the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, dedicated to the deportation of Crimean Tatars and the repression of Soviet power.
Professional holidays will not be overlooked: bankers will celebrate their day on May 20, military infantry and patriotic forces - Heroes Day and Marine Corps Day of Ukraine on May 23. The people of Kiev will traditionally celebrate the City Day on the last weekend of May, this year - May 25.
Due to the martial law, there will be no additional weekend in May 2025, so Ukrainians will rest only on the usual Saturdays and Sundays. However, this will not hurt to celebrate important holidays with family or friends.
