Ukraine continues to demonstrate its commitment to global food security even in the difficult conditions of war. As part of the "Grain from Ukraine" , the first batch of humanitarian aid - 500 tons of flour - was delivered to Syria. This is only the beginning of a large-scale program aimed at fighting hunger in the most affected regions of the world.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga, this initiative is part of the efforts of Ukraine and international partners, such as the World Food Program (WFP), in overcoming the global food crisis.
"No one in the world should suffer from hunger. While Russia is provoking global crises, Ukraine remains the guarantor of food security," Sybiga said.
Syria, which is recovering after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, became the first country to receive Ukrainian humanitarian aid. But the program is not limited to Syria.
Ukrainian products are ready to be sent to African countries:
- Mozambique will receive 416 tons of sunflower oil at the beginning of February.
- Djibouti will receive 73.4 tons of oil and 970.5 tons of flour at the end of January.
- Tanzania will receive 453 tonnes of sunflower oil in the coming weeks.
These supplies are implemented with the support of international donors, which allows to purchase products directly from domestic farmers. This approach has two important goals: helping starving countries and supporting the Ukrainian economy.
During a recent working meeting chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga and Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval, the program development strategy was determined. The transformation of the "Grain from Ukraine" initiative into the "Food from Ukraine" format is planned. This expansion will include not only the export of grain, but also other agricultural products.
Despite the war and challenges, Ukraine demonstrates its readiness to help the world. Thanks to "Grain from Ukraine", our country not only supplies starving regions with food, but also strengthens its reputation as a reliable partner. At the same time, such an initiative is an important incentive for Ukrainian farmers, who receive opportunities for development and opening of new sales markets.
This program proves that Ukraine, despite aggression from Russia, continues to be part of the solution to global problems and makes its contribution to the fight against hunger in the world.
