Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, made a statement regarding the situation in the Kursk region, which became the subject of discussion among Ukrainian politicians and military experts.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian operation in this zone was successful and thwarted Russia's plans for an offensive in the Sumy direction. According to Syrskyi, the task was accomplished, and the enemy suffered significant losses.
Syrsky emphasized the fact that Russia has concentrated about 45,000 troops in Kurshchyna, and is also trying to increase their number by attracting troops from North Korea due to a shortage of its own forces. According to Syrskyi, the occupiers sought to expand the territory of control in the north of Ukraine, in particular in the Sumy region, but the Defense Forces of Ukraine took measures to prevent this in advance.
On the other hand, deputy Maryana Bezugla reacted to Syrskyi's statement with sharp criticism. She believes that his words can be interpreted as prerequisites for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Kurshchyna. Bezugla also noted that Syrsky does not mention the losses of the Armed Forces in this process and the possible negative consequences for the Ukrainian front. She even offered Syrsky to "stay" in the Kursk region, implying that his statements call into question the integrity of Ukraine's defense strategy.
Thus, there is a disagreement between military and political representatives in the interpretation of the military situation at the front. While Syrskyi focuses on the achieved victory and the defeat of the enemy, Bezugla draws attention to the flaws in planning and tries to raise the question of greater strategic losses of Ukraine.
