Taiwan handed over American HAWK anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine, which will help strengthen the defense of Ukrainian skies during the ongoing war with Russia. Former high-ranking Pentagon official Tony Hu said this in an interview with Western media.
According to Forbes, Ukraine could receive up to 15 such batteries and now they make up about a third of Ukrainian air defense.
Certificates of such supply first appeared in 2023. The negotiations were conducted by the Americans. Taiwan began decommissioning the HAWK as early as 2015 and replacing it with locally developed systems and imported NASAMS.
"HAWK has been around for over 60 years. But it's simple, reliable, highly mobile, easily upgradeable, and works great against slower drones, cruise missiles, and manned aircraft. The HAWK missile is compatible with the more modern NASAMS air defense system," the newspaper writes.
In addition, dozens of countries use HAWK, and therefore Ukraine should be able to purchase hundreds of missiles for it. The main drawback of the system is that the radar is prone to interference.
