The Zhovkva District Court of Lviv Oblast sentenced driver Volodymyr Grabov, who caused a fatal accident with a motorcyclist in the village of Velykyi Doroshiv, to one year of probation.
The accident occurred on May 31, 2023. The 59-year-old driver of a Citroën Berlingo failed to yield the right-of-way to a 24-year-old driver of a Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle while entering the main road. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist died on the spot.
During the trial, Volodymyr Grabovyy entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor, which was supported by the deceased's family.
Judge Mariana Oleschuk found the driver guilty under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 4 years in prison. However, the court released Grabovy from serving his sentence in a penal colony, replacing it with a one-year probationary period.
The verdict can still be appealed.
