Border guards demanded a bribe for transferring a colleague to the rear area

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained two border guards who demanded a bribe for transferring a colleague from a combat unit to a rear area. The State Bureau of Investigation reports this.

According to the investigation, the border guard, who was serving in the Sumy region, was supposed to be transferred to a rear unit due to health reasons. To do this, he was offered to contact a lieutenant colonel, who promised to "resolve the issue" for $5,500. The serviceman immediately informed the internal security officers of the State Border Guard Service about this.

The lieutenant colonel stated that he had found a position in Zhytomyr and had hired an intermediary to transfer the money. On September 19, 2025, SBI investigators detained him while receiving the entire amount of the illegal benefit.

Currently, the lieutenant colonel and his accomplice have been charged with extortion and receiving unlawful benefits for influencing a decision, committed by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court has chosen for them a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 181,000.

Law enforcement officers are investigating the possible involvement of other officials in this transaction. If found guilty, the border guards face up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
