Damaged historic building in Kyiv to be inspected after scandalous "restoration"

The scandal over the damage to a historic building at 18 Andriyivskyi Uzviz in Kyiv continues to unfold. The Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration reported that the owner of the monument is obliged to immediately stop any work and allow specialists to inspect it.

The report states that an Order has been issued requiring the cessation of "restoration" activities that have caused concern among experts and residents. The Department's specialists are to assess the state of preservation of the building, the nature of the work performed, and the manner in which it is used.

The Kyiv City State Administration emphasized that based on the results of the inspection, response measures provided for by law will be taken.

Officials also reminded the owner of the obligation defined by the Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Cultural Heritage": to maintain the monument in proper condition, carry out timely repairs, and protect it from damage and destruction.

The building at 18 Andriyivskyi Uzviz is one of the historical gems of Podil. The public has repeatedly complained about interventions under the guise of restoration, which are more like reconstruction with the risk of losing authenticity.
