The Rivne City Court found Volodymyr Yakymchuk, the deputy director for administrative and economic work of the Rivne Vocational College of Information Technologies, guilty of bribery. The official demanded money from students for successfully passing a session, for which he was fined 42,500 UAH.
According to the December 4 verdict, in May and June 2024, Yakymchuk approached the head of the department of the Rivne Institute of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to help two students successfully pass the summer session. The students gave him UAH 5,000 and UAH 4,500, which he transferred to the teacher's bank card.
In addition, in March, June, and July 2024, Yakymchuk received approximately UAH 5,000 each from two more students of the Volyn Institute named after Lypynsky for promising to influence the teachers who made decisions regarding their examination sessions.
In court, the official fully admitted his guilt, repented, and agreed to a summary trial without examining the evidence.
Judge Maryan Holovchak found Yakymchuk guilty of providing and receiving undue benefit for influencing persons authorized to perform state functions (Part 1, Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and imposed a fine of UAH 42,500. The verdict can still be appealed.
