NABU detective Ruslan Maghamedrasulov said that Operation Midas, which exposed a corruption scheme in the energy sector, was initially planned to document abuses in the Ministry of Defense. He said this in an interview with the Anti-Corruption Center.
According to Magamedrasulov, there are certain signs in the case materials that link the Midas suspects to the defense sector. He emphasized that the primary goal of implementing a number of anti-corruption projects, including this operation, was to expose corruption in the Ministry of Defense.
"In general, the first goal of implementing all these projects, including "Midas", was precisely to document corruption in the Ministry of Defense. There are certain signs that link these individuals within the framework of this very activity," the NABU detective explained.
He also recalled that he had recently been released from a pre-trial detention center, where he had spent five months. Because of this, he said, he had not yet had the opportunity to discuss in detail with his colleagues all the case materials and find out the full scope of the documented episodes, except for Operation Midas itself.
At the same time, Magamedrasulov is convinced that if the collected materials contain evidence of corruption crimes, in particular those related to the defense sector, they will in any case be implemented as part of further investigative actions.
