British doctor Deborah Lee told us which foods should be included in your daily diet to reduce the level of so-called "bad" cholesterol in the blood.
The first step, she said, is to replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats. To do this, you should add red fish, poultry, nuts, legumes, and olive oil to your menu. Instead, you should reduce your consumption of sausages, desserts, pastries, and fatty cheeses.
The second important component is fiber. The doctor advises choosing whole grain products with a high fiber content: black bread, brown rice, and unpeeled pasta.
The third group of products consists of milk, natural yogurts, and special spreads. They contain sterols and stanols, substances that can reduce cholesterol levels by 10% even with small consumption.
At the same time, Deborah Lee emphasized that proper nutrition should only be an auxiliary element in the fight against high cholesterol. The main method remains drug treatment, which should be prescribed by a doctor after a face-to-face consultation.
