The European Field Hockey Federation has decided to suspend all national and youth teams of Ukraine from participating in international competitions due to the Ukrainian Hockey Federation's debt to the organization, which exceeds 30 thousand euros.
According to the head coach of the Ukrainian women's national team, Svitlana Makayeva, the Brussels office of the European Federation claims that the debt of the Ukrainian Field Hockey Federation is over 32 thousand euros, in particular due to unpaid fees for competitions. The money for these fees was allocated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, however, according to Makayeva, they were not transferred to the European Federation.
This decision was a blow to Ukrainian field hockey, as the Ukrainian national teams, including women's, men's and youth teams, were removed from the 2025 European Championships and will not be able to participate in other international tournaments.
It should be noted that until November 2024, only two countries, Russia and Belarus, were suspended from international field hockey competitions due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
