Despite broken roads, outdated infrastructure, and a lack of places in kindergartens, the family of Yaremche Mayor Andriy Myronyak lives lavishly. In 2024 alone, the mayor's wife declared 20 million hryvnias in income — and this despite the fact that her construction company, which previously won tenders, is currently officially not making any profit.
The family's main source of income, according to the declaration, is a woodworking enterprise that continues to operate. It is supposedly generating millions, although the taxes paid are surprising - only 600 thousand hryvnias with an income of 20 million. This is several times less than the law provides.
Luxury cars and metropolitan real estate
Although the mayor himself drives a nondescript car, his closest relatives own an expensive fleet of cars. His wife, daughter, and mother-in-law own a Volvo XC90, a Lexus LX 470, and other cars. His daughter, who recently graduated from university, has already managed to get herself an expensive apartment in Kyiv and two new cars.
Business in the heart of the reserve
Journalists also discovered a tourist hut operating in a protected area of the Carpathians, where any commercial activity is prohibited. The establishment belongs to a relative of the mayor — his brother-in-law. No permits, no agreements, no answers from the mayor — only confusing explanations and attempts to avoid a clear answer about the origin of the family wealth.
While locals are outraged by the state of the city, Andriy Myronyak's family is getting rich, buying up luxury properties and doing business in restricted areas. But will they be able to hide the origin of such wealth for long?
