The President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel expressed the opinion that Ukraine's chances of returning to the borders of 1991 are unlikely in the near future. In his interview for the Die Presse newspaper, he emphasized that Ukrainian society understands the complexity of this task and assumes that such a result may not be achieved in the coming years.
"It is unlikely that Ukraine will be able to regain all its territory within the internationally recognized borders, at least in the foreseeable future. Today, Ukrainians recognize that such a result is unlikely to be achieved in the near future," Pavel said in an interview with Die Presse newspaper.
He also touched on the subject of post-war negotiations, part of which, in his opinion, will be Ukraine's membership in NATO. Judging by the words of the Czech president, Kyiv may give up its membership in the Alliance in exchange for security guarantees and the military presence of Western countries.
"Later, negotiations can be held, because Ukraine's membership in NATO can be exchanged for something. For example, on guarantees when it comes to military presence," Pavlo said.
In his opinion, "these discussions will require significant diplomatic skills and political pressure."
At the same time, Pavlo believes that "Russia will not be satisfied with only a part of Ukraine."
