On the night of May 5 to 6, a missile-drone attack launched by Russia took place on the territory of Sumy Oblast. His target was a high-voltage facility of the National Energy Company "Ukrenergo", which led to the disconnection of electricity supply for numerous consumers.
This was reported to Ukrenergo, adding that emergency and restoration work was started immediately. The company's repair crews are actively working to restore power supply to the affected areas.
The Sumy regional state administration also noted that due to the attack, some settlements in various regions of the region were left without electricity. However, during the night it was partially possible to restore electricity supply in some areas and partially in the city of Sumy, and work on full restoration is ongoing.
According to Ukrenergo, the equipment of local power supply companies in Kharkiv Oblast was also shut down to protect the power system. Although most of the equipment has already been put into working condition, the full restoration of energy supply is complicated by military operations near the energy facilities.
In such conditions, the probability of introducing power outage schedules in the near future becomes an inseparable reality for Ukrainian energy companies. According to Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, this is due to expected peaks in electricity consumption in the summer and winter periods, as well as increased stress on the energy system due to hostilities in the region.
