The Security Service of Ukraine reported preventing a terrorist attack in Kharkiv by detaining a Russian FSB agent who was trying to set up a firecracker with an F-1 combat grenade in a city park.
According to the investigation, the attacker received coordinates of a cache of ammunition from Russian special services and purchased an inconspicuous fishing line on the market to connect to the grenade fuse. The enemy planned to detonate the grenade in a crowded place to cause panic among Kharkiv residents. The SBU exposed the intentions and detained the agent at night at the site of the terrorist attack.
The investigation found that the 62-year-old local resident was recruited through his wife, who lives in Moscow and works for the FSB. After installing the stretcher, he was supposed to make an improvised explosive device from plastid and explosive fluid to blow up in the center of Kharkiv. The Russian special services planned a remote detonation during rush hour.
During searches of the detainee's apartment, a push-button telephone for equipping explosives, a walkie-talkie, a smartphone, and a tablet with evidence of contacts with the enemy were seized.
The SBU informed the agent about suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason under martial law) and Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act by prior conspiracy by a group of persons). The perpetrator is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
