Fraudsters earned a quarter of a million hryvnias on fake ads

In the Mykolaiv region, the prosecutor's office exposed a group of fraudsters who, through fake ads on the Internet, defrauded dozens of citizens of almost 250 thousand hryvnias.

As reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the organizer of the crime was a resident of Vinnytsia Oblast, who is already serving a sentence in a penal colony. He involved his ex-wife and her mother from the Kryvoozersk community in the scheme.

The attackers created ads for the sale of firewood on popular online platforms and social networks. They received prepayment from gullible buyers, after which they disappeared with the money without providing any goods.

Law enforcement officers documented at least 26 cases of such fraud. The total amount of damage caused amounted to about a quarter of a million hryvnias.

The investigation has now been completed, and the case has been transferred to court. According to Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, fraud committed repeatedly and in a prior conspiracy is punishable by up to three years of imprisonment.
