Russia has deliberately disconnected the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian power grid, preparing to reconnect it to its own system. This was announced on October 2 by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, on the X platform.
According to him, the shutdown of the plant was carried out manually as a test step for the integration of the nuclear power plant into the Russian energy system. Sibiga expressed concern, noting that the next actions of the occupiers could be even more dangerous - starting the reactor under occupation conditions, without proper cooling, without a license and beyond any control.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called Russia's actions irresponsible and aimed only at demonstrating control. He emphasized that such steps significantly increase the risk of nuclear incidents.
Sibiga called on the IAEA to intensify efforts to ensure access for repair crews and specialized equipment to urgently restore the backup line. He also stressed the need to quickly connect multiple independent external power supplies to the station.
