The US State Department has approved two important contracts for Ukraine worth a total of $329 million. These are sales, not grants.
The first contract, worth $179.1 million, is for the maintenance of Patriot air defense systems and related equipment. Ukraine has requested the supply of spare parts, software, modernization kits, test and communication equipment. The agreement also provides for integration and repair work, engineering and logistics support, personnel training and related documentation.
The second contract is valued at $150 million and is related to the continuation of satellite communications services for Starlink terminals. The package will include engineering, technical and logistical services for the US government and contractors, as well as other support elements.
Washington stressed that these sales are aimed at strengthening Ukraine's self-defense capabilities and enhancing regional security. At the same time, the State Department noted that the deals do not change the basic military balance in the region.
