The Verkhovna Rada currently has no clear deadlines for preparing new electoral legislation, which should determine the procedure for holding elections after the end of the war. This was reported by interlocutors among the people's deputies participating in the relevant discussions.
According to sources in the parliament, the working group, headed by First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniyenko, continues to discuss various options for legislative changes. However, there are no specific decisions or an agreed text of the document yet.
One of the representatives of the Servant of the People faction noted that the group's meetings so far are more like discussions of possible scenarios and risks. According to him, these are preliminary consultations without final developments.
Another interlocutor among the government representatives stated that in parallel, the political leadership is discussing a scenario for the functioning of state power in the event that elections cannot be held for several more years due to the war.
At the same time, other assessments regarding the preparation of the legislation are being heard in the public space. Oleksiy Koshel, Chairman of the Board of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, who is a member of the working group preparing the draft law, previously stated that the document on holding post-war elections is already approximately two-thirds ready.
According to him, in the event of a political agreement, the draft law may be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada in the near future.
The issue of elections in Ukraine remains complicated by martial law. The constitution stipulates that holding national elections is impossible during martial law, so politicians and experts are looking for legal mechanisms to organize voting after the war ends.
