Kyiv may face longer and more frequent power outages in winter than most other regions of Ukraine, MP Oleksiy Kucherenko said, commenting on the situation in the power system after massive attacks by Russian troops.
According to him, the capital is largely dependent on the Rivne and Khmelnytsky nuclear power plants. At the same time, a critically important transformer substation near Kyiv, located 30 kilometers from the city, was seriously damaged. This is why Kyiv cannot receive the additional capacity needed for a more stable electricity supply.
Kucherenko noted that the power units and equipment at the substation have suffered significant damage. This has led to an energy shortage that the capital is experiencing the most. As a result, Kyiv residents will have to live with regular outages this winter, although specific schedules may vary depending on the load on the network and the capabilities of repair crews.
The People's Deputy expressed hope that the energy sector will be able to mitigate the situation, but warned: the risk of new attacks remains high, which means the possibility of worsening schedules is quite real.
