On September 29, a tragic traffic accident took place on the highway near the village of Khorohoryn, Lutsk district, in which the People's Hero of Ukraine, a full knight of the Order of Courage, Pavlo Chaika, died. The information about his death was confirmed by Rozhyshchensky mayor Vyacheslav Polishchuk, Suspilne .
The circumstances of the accident
According to the police of the Volyn region, a 36-year-old resident of Kyiv region, driving a Harley Davidson , drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Ford Fusion driven by a 30-year-old resident of Volodymyr. As a result of a strong collision, the motorcycle caught fire, and its driver, Pavlo Chaika, died at the scene.
At the same time, the 30-year-old female passenger of the car was injured, but did not require hospitalization. The police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a traffic violation that caused the victim's death. An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
Farewell to the hero
The farewell ceremony for Pavlo Chaika will take place on October 2 in his hometown of Rozhyshche. This is a great loss for the local community, because Pavlo was not only an honorary citizen of Rozhyshchi, but also a true symbol of devotion to Ukraine.
Life and military career of Pavel Chaika
Pavlo Chayka, nicknamed "Sigl", was born in the city of Rozhishche, Volyn region. At the age of 15, he entered the Volyn Regional Military Lyceum, after which he continued his studies at the Law Faculty of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. His military career began in 2007, when he served a term of service in the landing forces and signed a contract.
Pavlo Chaika went through the most difficult battles of the Russian-Ukrainian war, including the defense of the Donetsk airport and the battles for Debaltseve. He served as part of the 79th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, where he commanded a platoon. For his personal courage and heroism, Pavlo was repeatedly awarded the "For Courage" orders. He received three degrees of this order for his participation in battles in Sloviansk, Zelenopilly, Mariintsa and two rotations at the Donetsk airport.
In 2016, Pavlo Chayka was awarded the title of People's Hero of Ukraine — the highest public recognition for dedication and courage.
