US military assistance to Ukraine, which was suddenly discontinued in early July, can again move in the Ukrainian direction after meetings between representatives of Washington and Kiev. It is reported by Politico, citing sources in the US administration.
The specialist of President Donald Trump in Ukraine Cat Kellogg this week will meet with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov in Rome, during the International Conference on Supporting Ukraine (July 10-11), and is planning to come to Kiev next week.
Although the initial meetings were planned before the pause in the supply of weapons, the key issue will now be the restoration of defense support. According to Politico sources, the United States has already informed Kyiv about the willingness to restore the supply of weapons - including engineering equipment and some armored personnel carriers. There are no specific terms at this time.
Recall that in early July, the US administration suddenly suspended the shipment of even already prepared for transportation of weapons from Polish hubs. Among them are Patriot, Hellfire rockets and thousands of arts.
The White House explained this with a "temporary audit" of global obligations to weapons partner countries. However, this pause has caused anxiety in Kiev, because right now Russia has intensified massive shelling, and the need for air defense is critical.
Following the telephone conversation of Zelensky and Trump on July 7, the US President publicly declared his intention to transfer more weapons to Ukraine.
"We will send more weapons. We must. They must be able to protect ourselves. They are now very fired," Trump stressed.
The following meetings of Kelloga and Umerov can finally unlock assistance - at least in some types of weapons vital for the defense of Ukraine in the conditions of increased aggression of the Russian Federation.
