US President Donald Trump began to show a gentle attitude towards President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, instead talking stiffer against the Kremlin head. About it reports the British edition of Financial Times with reference to sources in the Trump team.
According to the newspaper, an informal meeting between Trump and Zelensky took place during the NATO summit in Washington. After her, Trump called the Ukrainian president "very sweet" and the conversation "very pleasant". He noted that the conversation lasted almost an hour and was devoted to the general situation in Ukraine.
At the same time, he denied that he had discussed the ceasefire with Zelensky, although he did not rule out that the issue of war was raised in a broader context. According to Trump, Zelensky survived "difficult times" and is now in a difficult situation.
Instead, Trump's rhetoric has become noticeably tougher. In conversations with the Allies, he began to disappoint Putin's disappointment, in particular because of his maximalist demands, which block any chance of ceasefire. Trump stated that Putin should "put an end to the war because people die on an unprecedented scale."
FT journalists say that Trump's team is afraid that the war in Ukraine is delayed and can be a toxic factor in his campaign, unless there is a clear signal of the desire for peace. That is why, as analysts suggest, the President gradually changes his position - balancing between Putin's criticism and constructions in relations with Kiev.
