An investigation into the death of prominent businessman, developer, and investor Adnan Kivan is gaining momentum in Odessa. Law enforcement officials have reported suspicions to two doctors at a private medical facility where he was being treated for cancer.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office and the National Police, Kivan was treated at the clinic from May to October 2024, and died on October 28 of the same year. The law enforcement agency's statement does not mention the patient's name, but media outlets confirm that it is Kivan, one of the most influential businessmen in Odessa.
The conclusions of the forensic medical examination revealed that the death was conditionally preventable: with timely diagnosis, proper assessment of the condition and treatment, the patient could have lived longer. According to the investigation, the doctors committed gross violations of medical protocols, which led to the development of sepsis and the death of the patient.
Suspicions have been raised against a surgeon and an oncologist from a private clinic. They are charged with improper performance of professional duties, which led to grave consequences - Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The doctors face up to two years in prison and a ban on holding positions for up to five years.
The investigation is preparing a request for 24-hour house arrest and temporary suspension of the suspects from work.
As a reminder, Adnan Kivan, a native of Syria and owner of KADORR Group, was one of the richest people in Ukraine. In 2021, he was ranked 42nd in the Forbes ranking with a capital of about $240 million. His company built dozens of residential complexes in Odessa and Kyiv, including the Perlyna series of houses, the Oasis residential complex, and the French Boulevard business center.
