Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, together with prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, reported suspicions to two lawyers who were planning to bribe a judge of one of the capital's courts. The suspects' actions were qualified under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - offering an unlawful benefit to an official.
As reported by "Law and Business" with reference to the NABU, the lawyers offered the accused in the case of the theft of sand belonging to JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" to assist in the acquittal. To do this, they planned, through their connections in one of the expert institutions, to organize the preparation of the "necessary" expert opinion, which was to become the basis for determining the amount of the bribe to the judge.
Thus, the lawyers tried to agree on the amount of undue advantage necessary to reach a decision in favor of the client.
In April of this year, one of the exposed defendants was already reported for suspected unauthorized access to the closed part of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions. At that time, he illegally performed over 39,000 search queries and viewed 7,572 court decisions.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, and the suspects could face up to eight years in prison.
