The State Budget of Ukraine revealed a significant shortage of funds for defense needs for 2025. According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the MP from the Voice faction, the shortage is at least UAH 200 billion.
According to the parliamentarian, since the beginning of the year it became clear that the planned expenditures on the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not cover the real needs of the front. As of May, this problem came to the surface.
“This year (as in 2024 and 2023), the budget lacks the money for the army. As of mid -May, it is obvious that the planned expenditures on the army are not enough. Somewhere now-for 200 billion UAH, ”the deputy wrote in his telegram.
Zheleznyak added that the Cabinet of Ministers is already working on changes to the state budget, which will provide for an increase in expenditures on the defense sector. According to him, it can be about UAH 250 billion.
“The council will vote. Until I did the betrayal here - all the military payments went and will be planned. The government is still making an "approach", ”the People's Deputy reassured.
However, he warned that Ukrainians were waiting for another political confrontation around the adoption of changes to the country's main financial document.
“It is obvious that they will have to change the budget. Therefore ... we are soon waiting for another epic called: "Vote changes to the budget so that the army be with money", "Zheleznyak summed up.
It should be reminded that in previous years the State Budget of Ukraine was also repeatedly adjusted due to an increase in defense expenditures. In 2024, the total amount of military expenses was increased by over UAH 300 billion only within the first six months.
The funding of the army today is critical not only on domestic reserves, but also on international support, including the EU, the US and Japan. External delays often create cash gaps that have to be covered promptly due to changes to the state budget.
