For this fictitious marriage, the military has paid 200 thousand hryvnias to the elderly man. This enabled him to avoid mobilization, using the right to defer as a person with a disability.
The organizer of the scheme was exposed by operatives of the Migration Police Department of Lviv region together with investigators. He was suspected of part 1 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - trafficking in human beings. The sanction of this article provides from three to eight years in prison.
