On the night of July 1, an earthquake of magnitude 3.1 was recorded in the Poltava region. According to Yuri Andrushchenko, the head of the Center for Collection and Processing of the Main Center of Special Control, such underground shocks for the region are commonplace and do not cause concern.
The expert explained that Poltava region is located within the Dnieper-Donetsk depression-zones with long-term tectonic activity. Over the last few years, about ten such earthquakes have been recorded here. The overwhelming majority of these shocks are insignificant and are only only for people with hypersensitivity.
According to Andrushchenko, underground fluctuations occur at a small depth and do not have deep sources, which makes them a natural result of tectonic tension in the platform part of Ukraine. They are not a signal of possible large -scale seismic activity in the region.
The earthquake occurred near the village of Karpus near Poltava. According to the classification, the magnitude 3.1 belongs to the category not tangible to the majority of the population.
