Today it became known that the first volunteers from the "Ukrainian Legion" officially signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This step became the next stage in the cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, which provides support to our country in resisting Russian aggression. After signing the contracts, the volunteers will be directed to one of the training grounds near the Polish city of Lublin, where special military training will take place under the guidance of instructors from NATO countries.
In the Polish city of Lublin, on the basis of the recruiting center at the Consulate General of Ukraine, the first group of volunteers of the "Ukrainian Legion" officially signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by "Ukrinform" on Tuesday, November 12.
The head of the recruiting center invited each volunteer in turn to sign the contract, which they had read in advance.
According to the representative of the center, Petro Horkusha, more than 600 people have already submitted applications to join the "Ukrainian Legion".
"Ukrainian Legion": what is known
This volunteer unit of the Armed Forces was created within the framework of the security agreement, which was signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk in Warsaw in July. One of the key points of this agreement is the organization of training of Ukrainian military units on the territory of Poland.
After signing the contracts, the volunteers will be sent to a training ground near Lublin to undergo basic training according to NATO standards. The training course will last 35 days under the guidance of instructors from the member countries of the Alliance. For those who will need additional training in a specialization, further training is provided in other places.
Volunteers have the option to sign a contract for three years or until the end of the special period.
According to the agreement of the parties, Ukraine provides Legion members with military uniforms and medicines, while Poland provides infrastructure, equipment and weapons for training. The issue of fully equipping the unit with Polish equipment and weapons for its further deployment to Ukraine is still under discussion.
We will remind you that on October 3, the Ministry of Defense announced the start of accepting documents in Poland from citizens of Ukraine who expressed a desire to join the ranks of the Defense Forces in the "Ukrainian Legion".
The government of the Czech Republic is monitoring the formation of the "Ukrainian Legion" in Poland and is considering the possibility of participating in this project.
