The first case of imported tropical malaria in 2025 has been confirmed in Rivne. A resident of the region who recently returned from a trip to India fell ill. This was reported by the Rivne Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to doctors, the woman's first symptoms appeared about two weeks after returning home. She consulted her family doctor, after which she was hospitalized in the infectious diseases department of the Central City Hospital of Rivne. There, doctors diagnosed her with malaria, caused by the most dangerous pathogen, Plasmodium falciparum.
Recall that this is the most aggressive form of malaria, which without timely treatment can lead to serious complications and even death.
According to official information, this is the first case of malaria in the Rivne region since 2022.
Currently, specialists from the regional center for disease control and prevention have begun the necessary epidemiological and preventive measures:
-
conduct an entomological survey of the territory,
-
establish the boundaries of a possible focus of infection,
-
identify the circle of contacts who may have been at risk.
Doctors remind: when returning from countries with an increased risk of malaria infection, especially from South Asia and Africa, it is important to carefully monitor your health. If symptoms appear - fever, chills, headache, weakness - you should immediately consult a doctor and inform about the fact of recent travel.
