On the night from Saturday to Sunday, March 31, Ukrainians will switch their clocks to summer time, moving them forward one hour. This is a standard procedure that is performed at three o'clock in the morning.
The transition to summer time in Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers from 1996. According to this decision, summer time is introduced in order to optimally use the light part of the day in the period from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October.
Note that most electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops automatically adjust their clocks, so users do not need to do this manually. However, it won't hurt to check the settings.
There is an ongoing discussion about canceling the transition to summer and winter time in the country. Bills in this regard were submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, but none of them gained sufficient support. The last draft law, which proposed to cancel the transition to summer and winter time, was registered in the fall of 2020, but was not adopted by the deputies.
Daylight saving time was first implemented in Great Britain in 1908, followed by Germany in 1916. This practice spread to other countries later, including the United States and most of Europe.
