Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosyniak-Kamysz announced on local television that there are still not enough Ukrainians abroad to form the Ukrainian Legion. This issue has sparked discussion, as the creation of the legion is intended to support Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
"We prepared for this. We are not responsible for recruitment. However, the number of people who were supposed to volunteer from the Ukrainian side is too small. These declarations were initially very high - that even one brigade could be formed, that is, several thousand people. However, this did not happen," said Kosyniak-Kamysh.
It will be recalled that back in July, 3 days after the announcement of the creation of the Legion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, stated that several thousand people had already applied for membership.
Invitations were sent to Ukrainian refugees abroad by email.
