As part of the "PEACE in Ukraine" project, the World Bank provided the second tranche of non-refundable financing in the amount of 760 million dollars to the state budget of Ukraine. This amount includes grants from the Japanese and Norwegian governments of $465 million and $295 million, respectively.
The received funds are intended for partial compensation of state budget expenditures that are not related to security and defense. In particular, these finances are aimed at pension payments, payments to employees of the State Emergency Service (DSNS) and teachers' wages.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed a desire to consider the use of profits from frozen Russian assets for the purchase of military equipment for Ukraine. "It's time to start a conversation about using profits from frozen Russian assets for the joint purchase of military equipment for Ukraine," she said. "It will be a strong symbol and will bring significant benefits, making Ukraine and all of Europe a safer place to live," von der Leyen added.
